3" Self Installation Fireplace

3" Installation Guide for Natural Gas Users

Please read the instructions in full before installing your product(s). If at any point you are unsure about how to install the product, or just want to make sure you are doing it right . . . PLEASE call or email us. Not installing properly, or test lighting your natural gas burner sometimes can delay the completion of the install, and may require you to buy more product if you need to remove any.1. Clean your fireplace, wire brush it if needed, to remove any soot build up. Wipe the surfaces clean with a dry cloth to remove any dust. If you are painting, mask off the areas that you don't want any paint to get on. Also, make sure to open up your windows to allow the paint fumes to escape. Spray your paint and remove the masking.2. Now you want to hook up your natural gas burner and place it in the center of the fireplace. Using a pipe wrench, just connect the flex hose (hand tight) to the plumbing. The natural gas burner comes with a flex line hose that threads on to your stub/plumbing like a garden hose would to your water plumbing. NOTE: You can use as much glass as you would like. You get to choose the height of the glass surface, and this is why we recommend using a filler of 1 inch when doing a three inch total coverage. You can even do a 4 inch overall coverage. This works especially well for those of you with an abnormally large recess from the fireplace floor to your hearth. Remember, you get to choose the height of the glass surface.3. When using the 3 method of all glass, pour in your first inch of glass [When layering colors : remember to keep the front of the fireplace clear of your first color layer of glass (3-4 inches from the front). This is so we can’t see the glass underneath]. Now, pull the natural gas burner up toward the surface. You will want your natural gas burner flush with the surface of the first glass pour; not sitting on top, and not buried below. Turn on the natural gas supply and light the natural gas burner with a safety lighter. Check to see that the flame is centered and going up (not lapping on the back wall; this will cause suiting and not look good). * You can turn the pipes on your natural gas burner to have the holes facing down. This will change the flame pattern. Once your flame is how you like, its ready for glass. NOTE: If you are doing more than 3 inches of overall coverage, pour all but the last 2 inches of glass in. Now bring the natural gas burner up to be flush with that surface, making sure that the natural gas burner will be no farther than 2 below the top surface of the glass when we are finished [When layering colors : remember to keep the front of the fireplace clear of your first color layer of glass (3-4 inches from the front). This is so we can’t see the glass underneath]. Once your flame is how you like, its ready for glass.PRECAUTION !!!! We are only supplying you with 3" of glass coverage, unless you ordered more. If you need more than 3" of coverage to have the height you want, or you think you need more glass, NOW IS THE TIME TO ORDER MORE GLASS. When doing more than 3 inches of overall coverage, make sure that the natural gas burner is no farther than 2 below the top surface of the glass.4. Now that you have your all but 2 inches of your glass left to install, and your natural gas burner is positioned and working properly, it is time to pour in the rest of your glass (if you have more of your first layer of color, put that on first). You do not want your top layer of glass mixing with the bottom layer. * If you are layering, remember keep the bottom layer of glass 3-4 inches from the front opening. When pouring your base glass, start from the front and work your way to the back, pouring in slowly, or using a small garden shovel. It's as easy as that!!! If you have any questions, please send us an email or call us direct. We are always glad to help. We want you to be happy with the look of your fireplace. Thank you again for choosingWestCoastFlames.com.
